1) How has earning the Certified Autism Specialist been meaningful and satisfying?

By earning my CAS, I feel that I have the credentialing to match my years of experience and support my knowledge in working with students with autism.

2) How has the CAS credential effected your professional growth?

I feel that I am now categorized in a higher level in my field of expertise.

3) What changes need to be made in your work environment?

I believe more training needs to be provided to teachers and paraprofessionals to help them better understand and support individuals with autism.

4) How do you like to be recognized, acknowledged and rewarded for a job well done?

I just like to see a child that I am working with be successful.

5) What is your greatest challenge or roadblock?

Trying to include and accommodate a child within a general education setting and convincing teachers the importance of accommodations.

6) What makes you feel like a valuable contributor?

When I can positively support a teacher and help provide the teacher tools to use in his or her classroom.

7) What support, tools/resources, skills or empowerment do you need to be more effective?

Continuing to learn and grow in my field.

8) What strengths or talents do you possess that aren’t being used?

I am great with working directly with student in a classroom setting and as a consultant, I no longer get to work in my own classroom. However, I feel that I can better serve by supporting and educating others.

9) What de-motivates you?

When appropriate services cannot be provided due to budget issues.
